Tournaments
Competition at DOS Taekwondo
All DOS Taekwondo students have the opportunity to compete in local and national tournaments. We regularly participate at inter-club, state, national, and international levels, and encourage students who are interested to pursue competition, all the way to the Australian team.
Competition is always optional and never compulsory. Whether you choose to compete or focus solely on personal development, both paths are fully supported at DOS.
Tournament Preparation
Students preparing for competition receive focused training that includes:
- Poomsae (patterns) - Perfecting form and presentation for judges
- Sparring drills - Developing combinations, counter-attacks, and timing
- One-on-one coaching - Individual attention from senior instructors
- Strategy sessions - Understanding scoring, rules, and tactics
Our coaches have extensive competition experience at national and international level, led by Grand Master Sam Guner who represented Australia from 1998 to 2004.
Our Track Record
DOS Taekwondo regularly produces champions in both sparring and poomsae across all ages and belt levels.
2015 Sydney Best of Bests Tournament:
- 50 DOS fighters competed
- 40 Gold medals and 10 Silver medals
- 1st place overall
This result reflects the standard of instruction and the dedication of every student who trains at DOS.
Getting Involved
If you are interested in competition, speak to your instructor. They will assess your readiness and help you prepare for your first event. Many students find that competition, even at inter-club level, is a rewarding experience that accelerates their development and builds confidence.
