Taekwondo Caringbah – Article of the day by Dos Taekwondo.
With the many kinds and styles of martial arts that can be found today, it is hard to determine which one is the best. Many have debated and argued upon which they prefer which has also ended up in causing rivalries between practitioners of different arts. Although some martial arts may look similar, they still have their differences as all are unique based on the techniques, forms, and moves they must master.
Taekwondo Caringbah – Comparison of Taekwondo and Karate
Two of the most popular martial arts practiced today are Taekwondo and Karate. Many say that they have a lot of similarities which is true since the former is actually derived from a style of Karate named Shotokan Karate. Having some moves that were taken from the art, Taekwondo added more techniques that focused on high kicks.
The main difference of both arts is that Karate focuses more on hand techniques and the use of legs as backup, while Taekwondo brings more emphasis on a kicking style and the use of hands as its backup. The fighting postures of both arts also differ since both have different perspectives when it comes to techniques and stances. In addition, Taekwondo was form in Korea while Karate is from Japan. The core principle of both Taekwondo and Karate stress self-discipline and a high code of personal conduct. Both have a sport competition element, however this makes up only part of the entire curriculum.
As for the stances of the martial arts, since Karate is highly focused on hand techniques, the legs and feet usually stay grounded and are used in favor of covering distances when performing hand attacks. Legs are considered to be more coiled with their body weight slightly lower. In Karate, legs should be shoulder width apart to be able to perform favorite movements such as the reverse punch and arms must be held more forward and should always be ready to strike the opponent.
Taekwondo, on the other hand, uses more of a lighter and higher stance with straighter legs in order to perform kicking attacks. Arms are held higher and are held further back to protect the head while the leading leg is used to protect the lower body and is ready to counter the attacks of the opponent. To be able to perform fast kicks, practitioners of Taekwondo usually keep their front leg light and put more weight to the back where they use the leading leg as the main kicking source.
Taekwondo Caringbah — taekwondo as a famous sport
Taekwondo Caringbah – Dos Taekwondo is a martial art academy that is inclined to teaching the art of Taekwondo. Although different from the techniques of Karate, Taekwondo is still considered a more famous sport and is recognized in the Olympic Games.
Why is taekwondo famous? It is because Taekwondo is a form of both exercise and self-defense. It should be noted that although taekwondo tends to favor fast kicking, taekwondo training also involves learning blocks, punches, take-downs, and joint locks. Exercising with the coordination of your body parts at the same time learning to protect yourself from possible physical assaults around you is quite interesting, right? After all, we need to defend ourselves in times of need especially in the presence and rise of crime rates that are seen today.
